Brief Scores: Australia 505 for eight (Khawaja 160, Carey 93, Smith 72, Ashraf 55/2) at Stumps on Day Two

On the first day of the second Test match of the series between Pakistan and Australia at National Stadium in Karachi, the latter accumulated 251 runs after losing three wickets. Usman Khawaja was unbeaten on 127 on the first day.

Usman Khawaja and Nathan Lyon add fifty-run partnership

Khawaja carried his form from yesterday to play free-flowing strokes. His partner Nathan Lyon also started to bat aggressively in the morning. He hammered two boundaries in two consecutive overs of left-arm seamer Shaheen Shah Afridi. At last, pacer Faheem Ashraf knocked down the stumps of Lyon on 38. Both batters added 54 runs for the fourth wicket.

Usman Khawaja completes 150

Travis Head joined Khawaja in the middle. In the meanwhile, Khawaja reached the 150-run mark off 322 deliveries. His partner Head looked in fine touch and he pummelled two boundaries off Hasan Ali in an over. Australia amassed 332 runs after losing four wickets till Lunch.

Sajid Khan dismisses Usman Khawaja on 160

After the break, right-arm off-break spinner Sajid Khan cleaned up Head, as the bowler caught the latter plumb in front of the stumps. Head could make only 23 runs off 48 deliveries. All-rounder Cameron Green came to bat at five down. Khan delivered again by uprooting the stumps of Khawaja. The right-hander made 160 runs off 369 deliveries. He hammered 15 fours and one six in his remarkable knock.

Wicketkeeper batter Alex Carey joined hands with Green in the middle. Both batters brought up 400 runs for Australia. However, Green got bowled by Nauman Ali on 28 in the last over before Tea.

Alex Carey carries his side over 500

After the tea break, the hosts looked to wrap up the Australia innings. Though Carey had other ideas as he batted beautifully to reach his fifty in 104 deliveries. He struck two back-to-back boundaries off Afridi to get his side to the 450-run mark. The 30-year-old batter added 98 runs with Mitchell Starc for the eighth wicket. Australia reached the 500-run mark due to this quickfire stand between Carey and Starc. Unfortunately, Carey missed his century by seven runs as part-time spinner Babar Azam knocked down his stumps. The batter made 93 runs off 159 deliveries with the help of seven boundaries and two sixes.

Australia finished the day on 505 for eight and Starc remained unbeaten on 28 at stumps.
