Brief Scores: PBKS 214/5 (Prabhsimran Singh 71, T Natarajan 2/33) lost to SRH 215/6 (Abhishek Sharma 66, Harshal Patel 2/49 ) by 4 wickets.

Player of the Match: Abhishek Sharma 66(28)

Punjab Kings’ (PBKS) IPL 2024 season came to an end with a loss against the SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH). They can still draw a lot of positives from the way they exhibited themselves on the field with a depleted unit against a strong Hyderabad unit at their den. PBKS posted a huge score of 214/5 on the board but SRH chased down the target without much fuss, losing just 6 wickets.

SRH will be elated with the win as they placed the best bet to secure the second rank in the points table with a net run rate (NRR) of 0.41. SRH getting back to the winning ways just before the playoffs will instill a lot of confidence and positivity into the camp.

Key Takeaways from SRH vs PBKS, Match 69, IPL 2024 – Winning team (SRH)

Abhishek Sharma continues to shine; Heinrich Klaasen back in groove

Abhishek Sharma continued the form of his life. He has been the constant reckoning force in SRH’s batting prowess. In 14 innings, he has crossed 400 runs at an impeccable strike rate (SR) of 205.64. SRH lost their first wicket in form of Travis Head in the very first ball. But, the way Abhishek continued to play aggressively, unhampered on the other end, makes him lethal for the playoffs.

He stitched an important partnership of 72(30) with Rahul Tripathi to rescue the team. He scored a quickfire 66 off 28, striking hard at 235.71. He was adjudged the Player of the Match on the back of his impressive innings.

Heinrich Klaasen looked in great touch as well. He contributed to the team’s victory with a vital 42(26). He also played an important role in SRH’s leap to the playoffs as he contributed substantially with his quick scoring ability in the middle-order. He amassed 339 runs in 12 innings with a healthy SR of 186.26.

Abhishek and Klaasen showing ominous form with the bat just before the onset of the playoffs will be a huge boost for SRH.

Key Takeaways from SRH vs PBKS, Match 69, IPL 2024 – Losing team (PBKS)

Uncapped youngsters continue their contributions

The Kings stepped onto the field with only 1 foreign player, Rilee Rossouw, and 10 Indian players owing to the unavailability of heavyweight foreign players due to national commitments. But the way they put up a valiant display against a fervid SunRisers Team at their home is really applause-worthy.

Punjab got another good opening pair in Atharva Taide and Prabhsimran Singh who played undeterred by their opponents. They can be looked upon as good replacements for the opening pair of veterans Shikhar Dhawan and Jonny Bairstow. They continued to attack and play free-flowing shots to put SRH’s bowling on the backfoot. They stitched a 97-run partnership together to accelerate Punjab’s innings.

Atharva Taide had a promising 2023 season where he scored 186 runs, striking at 144.19. But this year, he got to play only two matches due to the unavailability of key players. He grabbed the opportunity with both hands. He scored a substantial 46(27) and supported Prabhsimran Singh well at the other end.

Prabhsimran Singh, who played all 14 games, is looking a more matured and confident version of himself, compared to the previous edition. This year along with Shashank Singh and Ashutosh Sharma, Prabhsimran carved a niche for himself with his blinder innings of 54(20) against KKR. He scored 71 off 45 against a strong SRH bowling lineup. In 14 innings, he amassed 334 runs with an impressive SR of 156.81 and ended his IPL 2024 journey on a high note.
