India vs Sri Lanka: Record 19 Players used by India in T20I series

19 – India used 19 players in this T20I series, which equals the record of Australia against India in 2016 and Romania against Bulgaria in 2020.

1 – Indian skipper Shikhar Dhawan struck 46 runs in the first T20I match, which is the highest score for an Indian player on captaincy debut. The previous record-holder is former Indian cricketer Virendra Sehwag who scored 34 while captaining his side against South Africa at Johannesburg in 2006, in what was incidentally India’s first ever T20I match.

1 – Shikhar Dhawan became the oldest player (35 years 232 days) to make his captaincy debut for the Indian team in T20I cricket. The previous record-holder was Rohit Sharma, who made his captaincy debut for India at the age of 30 years 234 days against Sri Lanka at Cuttack in 2017.

139Suryakumar Yadav has piled up 139 runs in his first three T20I innings which is the record highest runs scored by an Indian player in his first three T20I innings.

1Prithvi Shaw became the 1st player to open batting for India men in Tests, ODIs and T20Is before the age of 24.

2 – Prithvi Shaw is the second Indian player to get a golden duck on his T20I debut. The first Indian player to get a golden duck on his T20I debut was KL Rahul, who was dismissed on the opening ball of the innings against Zimbabwe at Harare in 2016.

3Prithvi Shaw is also the third Indian player dismissed on a duck on debut. MS Dhoni and KL Rahul also have this unfortunate record to their name.

250 Bhuvneshwar Kumar completed 250 dismissals in international cricket while playing the first T20I match of the series.

4 – Sri Lankan batsman Charith Asalanka scored 44 runs on his T20I debut in the first T20I match of the series, which is the fourth-highest scored for Sri Lanka on T20I debut.

3Bhuvneshwar Kumar became the third pacer of India to win 3 Man of the Match awards in T20I cricket. The first two are Jasprit Bumrah and Shardul Thakur, who bagged three Man of the Match awards in T20I cricket. However, Bhuvneshwar is the only Indian pacer to win those awards against three different teams.

4 – India handed 4 players their T20I debut in the second game of the ongoing T20I series. India handed debuts to five players on two occasions in T20I cricket before this, both against Zimbabwe in 2015 and 2016.

1First instance for all Indian bowlers, who bowled in the match, took at least one wicket in successive two T20I matches, in first two games of this series.

5 – With a win in the second T20I match of the series, Sri Lanka defeated India only five times in T20I cricket out of 24 games.

3 – Sri Lanka have won a total of only three T20Is this year after the series win against India.

6 – Bhuvneshwar Kumar batted at number six position first time in his international career while playing the second T20I match in the series.

50 – Bhuvneshwar Kumar reached the 50-wicket mark in T20I cricket while playing the second game of the series.

4 – Bhuvneshwar Kumar is the fourth Indian bowler and overall 40th bowler to take 50 wickets in T20I cricket. Before him, Yuzvendra Chahal, Jasprit Bumrah, Ravichandran Ashwin completed their 50 wickets for India in T20I cricket.

50 – Bhuvneshawar Kumar played his 50th T20I match in the second T20I game of the recently concluded series.

2 – Shikhar Dhawan amassed 40 runs off 42 balls in the second T20I match of the series. This is the second slowest knock for India with a strike rate of 95.23 where a minimum of 40 runs where scored. The record is held by Gautam Gambhir who played a slower knock than Dhawan with a strike rate of 93.33 against Australia in Melbourne in 2012.

8 – Indian players struck only eight boundaries in the second T20I match of the series. This proved to be a record for the lowest boundaries in 20 completed overs of an innings for India. The previous Indian record was 10 boundaries against South Africa at Trent Bridge, Nottingham in World T20 2009.

4 – Indian players smacked only four boundaries in the third T20I match of the series. This incidentally broke their own record for the lowest number of boundaries in 20 completed overs of an innings for India set in the previous game.

7Seven debutants took the field for India in this T20I series. Before this, India played six debutants in two series each against Zimbabwe in 2015 and 2016.

1 – Indian skipper Dhawan became the first Indian captain to get a golden duck in T20I cricket in the last match of the series. He is the sixth T20I captain across the globe to register this ill-fated record (among full members). Earlier captain Virat Kohli was dismissed on duck while facing the second ball against Australia at Guwahati in 2017.

1 – The third 20I was the first Instance when Indian batsmen failed to strike a single six when they batted for a full 20 overs in a T20I game.

2 – India scored 81 runs in the last match of the series, which is the second-lowest total while playing the allotted 20 overs in a T20I match among Test-playing nations. The record was held by West Indies who scored only 79 runs vs Zimbabwe at Port-of -Spain in 20 overs. The overall T20I record for all teams is 61/8 (20 overs) by Iran against UAE at Al Amerat in 2020.

3 – 81/8 is the third-lowest total for India in T20 cricket among completed innings (all out or full 20 overs). Before this, India amassed a mere 74 runs against Australia at Melbourne in 2008 and 79 against the Kiwis at Nagpur in 2016.

1 – Sri Lanka won the T20I series by 2-1, which is their first win in a bilateral series against India across formats since 2008. They beat India 2-1 in a Test series played on their shores in July 2008.

1 – Sri Lanka won their first white-ball bilateral series against India after 1997, after 24 years. In 1997, Sri Lanka vanquished the Indian team by 3-0 in an ODI series.

8 – In their 8th attempt, Sri Lanka conquered India first time in a bilateral T20I series. Before this series, India won six T20I series against Sri Lanka along with one series draw.

1Wanindu Hasaranga‘s 4/9 is the best T20I bowling figure for any player on a birthday (among full members). Next best is 4-21 by Proteas player Imran Tahir against Netherlands at Chittagong in 2014.

8 – India’s unbeaten streak of eight T20I series was halted by Sri Lanka who beat them in the recently concluded T20I series. India has a record unbeaten streak stretching to nine T20I series between September 2017 to December 2018. Both unbeaten streaks were achieved under the captaincy of Virat Kohli.

India’s next T20 assignment will be the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 scheduled to be held between October 17 and November 14.
