India are playing England in the third Test of a 5-Test series at Hedingley Cricket Ground in Leeds.

1 – Virat Kohli finally won the toss for the first time in a Test in England after losing it eight times.
78 – India was dismissed on a meagre total of 78 runs in the first innings of this Test, which is their ninth-lowest total in Tests. Also, 78 is the third-lowest total of India against England in Test cricket.
2 – 78 is the second-lowest total for India on the first day of a Test match after 75 in Delhi in 1987 against West Indies.
23 – English skipper Joe Root hammered a century at a blistering pace on the second day of the Leeds Test. It is his 23rd Test century. Among current players, only Virat Kohli (27), Steven Smith (27), David Warner (24), Kane Williamson (24) have scores more Test tons than Root.
1 – Joe Root tops the chart of centuries in India vs England H2H Test cricket with eight centuries in 41 innings. He surpassed the record of Rahul Dravid, Sachin Tendulkar and Alastair Cook who have scored seven centuries each in India vs England H2H Test cricket.

2 – Joe Root has now scored the second-highest number of Test centuries (5) against India as captain. Only Steven Smith (6) has scored more Test centuries against India as captain.

4 – Joe Root achieved the fourth spot in the table of the highest number of centuries against India across formats in international cricket by clobbering 11 tons against India. Only Ricky Ponting (13) and Steven Smith (13) have scored more tons against India in international cricket than Root while Kumar Sangakkara (11) has scored the same number of centuries as Root against India.
1 – English skipper Joe Root is the first player to score hundreds in three consecutive Tests twice in the same year. Root scored three centuries in consecutive Tests earlier this year against Sri Lanka and India.
6 – Root became only the sixth batsman in Test history to register four centuries against India in a year.
5 – Root became only the fourth player in Test history to record six centuries as captain in a calendar year. Only Ricky Ponting (2005 & 2006), Greame Smith (2008) and Steven Smith (2017) have achieved this feat before Root in Test history.
1 – Joe Root became the first player to score a hundred in his 100th Test innings as captain.
3 – Root has now piled up more than 500 runs in this series. He recorded 500 runs in a series thrice in his Test career. Among current players, only Virat Kohli (4 times) and Steven Smith (4 times) have registered 500 runs in a series more times than Root.
3 – Joe Root is the third English captain to score 500 runs against India in a Test series. Graham Gooch (1990) and Alastair Cook (2012) were the first two English skippers to do so.
4 – Joe Root became the fourth English captain to amass 500 runs in a home series. Graham Gooch (752), David Gower (732) and Peter May (582) were the first three English skippers to register this record.
35 – Indian batsman Cheteshwar Pujara has played 35 innings without a century in Test cricket. His last hundred (193) came against Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) in 2018.
1 – Among all batsmen (1-7 position players) in the 21st century who have played a minimum of 20 innings in England, Pujara has registered the worst Test average (25.82).

7 – English seamer James Anderson snared the wicket of Virat Kohli in the first innings of this match. He has now taken the wicket of Kohli seven times in Test cricket. He equalled the record of Aussie tweaker Nathan Lyon who has also bagged the wicket of Kohli seven times in Test cricket.
10 – Anderson has dismissed Pujara 10 times in Test cricket. Only Aussie tailender batsman Peter Siddle has lost his wicket more times (11) to Anderson than Pujara.
94 – James Anderson has now played 94 home Test matches which is a world record for any Test player. He equalled Sachin Tendulkar who took the field in 94 Test matches at home.
4 – This is only the fourth instance of the opponent’s opening partnership outscoring India’s total in the first innings of a Test. Bob Simpson and Bill Lawry in 1967, Graeme Smith and Neil McKenzie in 2008 and David Warner and Ed Cowan in 2012 achieved this feat before Rory Burns and Haseeb Hameed, who outscored India’s total in the first innings (78 runs) by stitching an opening partnership of 135 runs.
2 – This is only the second instance of the opponent’s opening partnership outscoring India’s total on the first day of aTest. The first pair to register such a record was Graeme Smith and Neil McKenzie in Ahmedabad in 2008.
2 – This is only the second instance of India conceding a 200+ lead under the captaincy of Virat Kohli. The first occasion of conceding a 200+ lead by Virat-led Team India was also against England at Lord’s in 2018 when the hosts took a lead of 289 runs.
