Jos Buttler’s 207-ball-26 goes in vain as Australia trump England in Adelaide

Australia comprehensively beat England by 275 runs in the day-night Test, the second game of Ashes 2021-22, to take an imposing lead of 2-0. This is certainly a situation from where it will be tough for the visitors to recover from unless they do something on the lines of what India did last summer against Australia.
However, coming back to the present, the poor run of England continues in Australia, one of the toughest countries to tour in the cricketing world after India. England’s record reflects their precarious situation down under where they have won just four Test matches in the 21st century, three of which came in their Ashes win in 2010-11.
England lose two quick wickets in the morning session
England started their innings today on 82 for 4 in front of the huge target of 468 runs. As they lost their skipper Joe Root on the final ball of the fourth day, they were on the verge of another miserable defeat. Next batter Ollie Pope couldn’t show any fighting spirit and got out on just 4 early in the morning. Pope edged a delivery bowled by Mitchell Starc and Steven Smith took the catch at the second slip.
Also, his partner Ben Stokes followed Pope and got out on the score of 12 off 77 balls. Off-spinner Nathan Lyon appealed for LBW against Stokes but the umpires turned down the appeal. However, Australia skipper Smith took the review and the ball looked to be crashing into stumps in the ball-tracking system.

Jos Buttler and Chris Woakes delay the loss
All-rounder Chris Woakes joined wicketkeeper batter Jos Butler in the middle. Buttler got beaten a few times before the dinner break. His partner Woakes hammered two boundaries to leg-spinner Marnus Labuschagne. Both batters played defensively to reach close to draw the Test.
After one hour of toiling, Jhye Richardson bowled out Woakes with a sharp inswinging delivery. Australia were only three wickets away from back-to-back wins in the Ashes series, however, Michael Neser dropped a tough catch of lower-order batter Ollie Robinson off his own bowling. Robinson stuck around for some time on the pitch, however, Lyon sent him back to the pavilion as Smith caught his catch at first slip.

Jos Buttler got hit-wicket, England conceded a lead of 2-0 to hosts
Next batter Stuart Broad survived a close call of LBW, which the umpire gave out, however, the England player reviewed it and got the decision overturned. Buttler and Broad managed to survive till tea break.
However, the blockathon of Buttler came to an end immediately after the break. Buttler was standing too deep in the crease and defended a delivery bowled by Richardson but ended up dislodging the bails. This wicket of Buttler finished the resistance of English team, as next batter James Anderson got out after three overs and England folded up on 192.
Thus, England suffered a huge defeat by 275 runs and conceded a lead of 2-0 to the hosts in Ashes 2021-22. Richardson took a five-for by conceding only 42 runs in this innings. Australia batter Marnus Labuschagne got the Player of the Match award due to his match-winning knocks of 103 and 51 in the Adelaide Test.
