Brief Scores: India 196/5 (Hardik Pandya 50 not out, Tanzim Hasan Shakib 2/32) beat Bangladesh 146/8 (Najmul Hossain Shanto 40, Kuldeep Yadav 3/19) by 50 runs.

Player Of The Match: Hardik Pandya (50* (27) & 1/32)

India beat Bangladesh comprehensively by 50 runs in the Super Eight clash of the T20 World Cup 2024 on Saturday to inch closer to a semis berth. Hardik Pandya struck a crucial fifty to help India score 196/5 before the bowlers came to the party to win the match by 50 runs. Bangladesh is almost out of the race for the knockouts.

India produces their best batting display

Asked to bat first, India produced their best opening partnership of 39 runs in the 2024 World T20. Bangladesh started with spinners. Captain Rohit Sharma took on Shakib Al Hasan, cracking a six and a four in the fourth over, but fell to the left-arm spinner while trying to go for another big shot. Meanwhile, Virat Kohli looked great, racing to 37 off 28 balls before he was bowled while giving the charge to Tanzim Hasan Shakib. Suryakumar Yadav edged it behind two balls later after cracking a six off the first ball. Rishabh Pant and Shivam Dube then stitched a quick stand of 31 in 3.1 overs before the keeper-batsman smashed a reverse sweep straight to gully.

Dube and Pandya then had the best partnership of the innings – 53 runs in 5.4 overs. Dube had a slow start before he started cracking sixes off the spinners. An attempt too many saw him lose his stumps. Hardik Pandya then took over, dealing in fours and sixes to race to 27-ball 50 not out to help India post 196/5. It was Pandya’s late power-hitting that saw India post an above-par total. He struck 4 fours and 3 sixes.

Besides, the Indian batters showed good intent, looking to score runs at a quick pace to put up a total beyond Bangladesh’s reach. They maintained a run rate of over 8 throughout before taking close to 10 by the end of the innings. The aggressive intent bodes well ahead of the important clash against Australia.

Indian bowlers stifle Bangladesh

Bangladesh had a good start to the chase, with the openers Litton Das and Tanzid Hasan putting in 35 runs for the first wicket. Pandya made the first breakthrough when he had Litton mistime a hit on Sky. Kuldeep Yadav then joined the party, bowling frivolously, conceding 19 runs while taking three wickets. He got a good turn from the wicket, and Bangladesh made the mistake of attempting to hit out the best Indian spinner on display. Kuldeep first dismissed Tanzid LBW and also had Towhid Hridoy out in the same fashion. Kuldeep took the prize wicket of Shakib to all but won the match for India. Eventually, Bangladesh was restricted to 146/8 as India romped home by 50 runs.
