Player of the Match: Bas de Leede – 30(30), 2/18 & 2 catches
The Netherlands dominated Namibia and despite a hiccup, finished the job with the bat to record a five-wicket victory and boosted their chance of qualification for the Super 12 stage.
Netherlands prevail by 5 wickets
Namibia struggled after deciding to bat first, while the Netherlands bowled well. Namibia’s Player of the Match against Sri Lanka was Jan Frylinck who was absolutely brilliant with both bat and ball even on Tuesday, scoring 43 runs off 48 balls and taking 1-16 leading his team to the Super 12 stage.
The Netherlands got off to a good start in the chase, thanks to a 59-run opening stand between Max O’Dowd (35) and Vikramjit Singh (39). A rush of wickets in the 16th and 17th overs, however, prolonged the game into the 18th over, when it was won by Netherlands with three balls to spare.
If the United Arab Emirates (UAE) defeat Sri Lanka in the second game of the day, the Netherlands will without doubt advance to the main round. Meanwhile, Namibia will need Sri Lanka to win in order to stay in the race.
Let’s scan the top three performances from the game between Netherlands and Namibia.
Bas de Leede
The 23-year-old Bas de Leede was the star performer for the Netherlands today. Scoring vital 30 runs while chasing the target of 122, he never panicked at any stage. Batting with such maturity at this young age is definitely something to cheer.
De Leede rotated the strike beautifully, thereby not applying too much pressure on himself and taking his team through. Before his batting heriocs, de Leede also contributed with the ball. De Leede bowled an extremely economical spell of 3-0-18-2 at an economy of just 6.00. Picking up two of the most crucial Namibia wickets, James Frylinck (43) and skipper Gerhard Erasmus (16).

Jan Frylinck’s all-round performance
Continuing his brilliant form from the last match against Sri Lanka, Jan Frylinck scored 43 runs off 48 balls in Tuesday’s game. Frylinck while batting understood the difficult situation Namibia was put into. Playing a slow yet sensible innings was the main ingredient in his innings. Lot of people might criticise him for his slow innings but it was his innings which took the Namibia innings to a total worth fighting.
Frylinck after proving himself in the batting department was now his chance to prove with the ball. Bowling with an economy of 4.00, he was again the best of the Namibia bowlers picking up the crucial wicket of Scott Edward giving away just 16 runs in his quota of 4 overs.

Vikramjit Singh’s blistering start
Netherlands batter Vikramjit Singh seems to have been playing on a different track than what the Namibia batters were playing on. Vikramjit dominated the Namibia bowling attack from the start. Playing some exquisite cover drives and pull shots in the first powerplay, he looked in absolute great touch.
Batting along with Max O’Dowd, they both managed to score 59 runs for the 1st wicket in 8.2 overs, before Vikramjit Singh was out caught off Bernard Scholtz. Vikramjit in his blistering innings of 39 runs off just 31 balls scored 3 boundaries and 2 massive sixes with a strike rate of 125.80.
