Key Takeaways from India vs Pakistan, 2024 World T20 – Winning team (India)
Rishabh’s brave innings and keeping make the difference
On a tricky pitch, Rishabh Pant played a gem of a knock of 42 off 31 balls with 6 fours. He was given a few reprieves by the Pakistan fielders, but nothing could take away from Pant’s intent innings as he looked to score quickly to keep the run-scoring going on a difficult batting pitch. Pant also came up with a few innovative shots to score a few cheeky boundaries as rotating the strike was not easy.
He also came up with brilliant glove work as he pouched three catches. Pant’s catch to dismiss Imad Wasim was the best of the match as the keeper dived to his right to take a faint edge from the batter.

Bumrah delivers at the right time
Jasprit Bumrah was the best bowler for India as he took wickets at critical times to wrest the momentum from Pakistan. He took the first Pakistan wicket to fall as he got Babar Azam to edge behind to slips after the openers had made a steady start of 26 runs. Later, when Pakistan looked set to be cruising towards the target as Mohammad Rizwan was batting brilliantly, Bumrah returned for his second spell to dismiss the Pakistan opener bowled on the first delivery. It was the turning point of the match as Pakistan lost their way and were restricted 6 runs short of India’s total. Bumrah also dismissed Iftikhar Ahmed in the penultimate over to seal the match for India. He took 3/14 and won the second straight man of the match award.

Key Takeaways from India vs Pakistan, 2024 World T20 – Losing team (Pakistan)
Pacers make the best use of conditions
Pakistan made the best use of the conditions in New York. It was a dual pace wicket with the ball not coming on to the bat nicely. Also, there was moisture in the pitch due to rain before the start of the match. However, credit to Pakistan bowlers for sticking to the basics, focussing on the good length deliveries and letting the pitch do the rest. It was Naseem Shah who got the early breakthrough, dismissing Virat Kohli for four as the batter reached out to a wide delivery only to hole out to cover point. Naseem then got Axar Patel bowled before dismissing Shivam Dube on the next delivery as the batter hit a slower ball back to the bowler.
Mohammad Amir rose to the occasion, dismissing the dangerous Rishabh Pant before dismissing Ravindra Jadeja in the next ball. Both the batters were foxed by deliveries that stopped and reached to them, making them mistime it. Haris Rauf then shed off an inconsistent start before dismissing Hardik Pandya and Bumrah off successive deliveries. The Pakistan bowling attack inspired a brilliant comeback that helped their team take India’s last 7 wickets for just 30 runs.
