The momentum shifted dramatically when young pacer Mayank Yadav unleashed an inspiring spell, consistently clocking speeds of up to 150 kmph. De Kock and Pandya showed huge positives
LSG demonstrated their excellent batting with a commendable total of 199 runs, despite facing setbacks early in the innings. The opening partnership of KL Rahul and Quinton de Kock couldn’t capitalize on the start they got, missing out on converting it into a big score. However, de Kock provided stability at the top of the order with a sensible approach, ensuring that LSG didn’t lose momentum. The middle order then took charge, with Marcus Stoinis and Nicholas Pooran injecting aggression into the innings.
Pooran’s calculated risks and aggressive stroke play kept the scoreboard ticking, ensuring that LSG never lost control of the match. Though Aryan Badoni struggled to get going, Krunal Pandya’s brilliant finishing towards the end propelled LSG to the highest T20 total at Ekana.

Mayank Yadav: A fresh addition
At the chase, LSG didn’t have the desirable start as Punjab smashed 61 for the loss of one wicket. But Yadav significantly impacted the game, turning the tide in favour of his team when LSG seemed to be struggling. Making his debut in the IPL, Yadav showcased impressive pace and skill, consistently hitting speeds of up to 152 kmph. He claimed three wickets, including the key dismissals of Jonny Bairstow and Prabhsimran Singh.
Bairstow’s dismissal came from a well-executed short delivery that induced a mistimed pull shot, resulting in a catch for Marcus Stoinis. Prabhsimran fell victim to Yadav’s pace and hurried into a pull shot which resulted in a top edge comfortably taken by Naveen-ul-Haq. Yadav’s pace and bounce troubled the batters, as evidenced by Jitesh Sharma’s dismissal, where he mistimed a pull shot, handing a catch to Naveen. Yadav’s remarkable spell helped LSG regain control of the match, bringing them back into contention and significantly impacting Punjab Kings’ batting lineup, ultimately shifting the momentum in favour of his team’s win.
Loving this spell from Mayank Yadav. Eases over 150 kmph. Nice action. Will be watching his development very closely

Key Takeaways from LSG vs PBKS, Match 11, IPL 2024- Losing team (PBKS)
Punjab lack contribution from the middle order
Shikhar Dhawan, the captain, has been the backbone of the Punjab innings with a solid knock of 70 runs off 50 deliveries, maintaining an impressive strike rate of 144.90. He was well supported by Jonny Bairstow, who contributed 42 runs off 29 balls before being dismissed by Marcus Stoinis. Getting good starts from the two-star players is a great plus for Punjab, who bank on them for match-defining knocks. Prabhsimran Singh also played a crucial role, adding 19 runs at a strike rate of 71.43 before falling to Mayank Yadav.
From here the entire Punjab innings derailed. Despite a solid start provided by the top order, Punjab faced a collapse resulting in their eventual loss in the match. The middle order failed to provide substantial support. Sam Curran was dismissed for a duck by Mohsin Khan, failing to score any runs. Despite the lower order being presented with a manageable target, their inability to capitalize on the solid start and build partnerships ultimately led to the Punjab Kings’ defeat in the game. This is something the team needs to look at as they now progress to more intense games.
Sam Curran’s variation with cutters and Arshdeep Singh’s ability to take key wickets, did help Punjab to restrict LSG within 200. But they also need help from the other bowlers; especially Rahul Chahar, to come together as a force to be reckoned with against their opposition.
