Brief Scores: India 396 & 28/0 (Jaiswal 201 & 15*, Gill 34, Anderson 3/47) lead ENG 253(Crawley 76, Stokes 47, Bumrah 6/45) by 171 runs.

India’s formidable home advantage was evident on Day 2 as they proved difficult to beat, especially when wickets started falling. Despite England’s promising start with Ben Duckett and Zak Crawley adding 59 for the first wicket, the tide turned quickly.

Jasprit Bumrah was the man of the hour bagging six wickets, with Kuldeep Yadav complimenting him with 3 wickets on the other end. The duo sent England packing for 253 runs only.

A dreamy day for Bumrah indeed as he also becomes the second fastest bowler to reach 150 wickets haul in Test cricket.

India were exceptional at bowling, with Bumrah shining as the star performer with 6 wickets. Yadav also showcased his skill. This combined effort left England in significant trouble.

Jaiswal’s double ton boosts India to 396; England’s strong first innings start before lunch

In the first session, India put up a total of 396 runs in their first innings, largely fuelled by Yashasvi Jaiswal‘s outstanding double century. Jaiswal displayed composure and solid technique, remaining untroubled and not giving any real chances. However, despite several starts in the middle order, other India batters failed to capitalize and convert their starts into big scores.

James Anderson once again stood out at the age of 41. He bowled a disciplined spell of 25 overs, consistently targeting the fourth stump, finishing with figures of 3/47. Shoaib Bashir, despite not bowling much in his domestic season, toiled for 38 overs and managed to pick up three wickets. Youngster Rehan Ahmed also impacted with a three-wicket haul, utilizing extra bounce to trouble the India batters.

In response, England’s opening pair of Crawley and Duckett looked positive and assured, guiding their team to 32 runs in the first six overs. The session set the stage for an intriguing post-lunch session with both teams eager to make an impact.

India makes a comeback by taking wickets in the second session

In the second session, India made a strong comeback by taking quick wickets, neutralizing the threat posed by Crawley’s aggressive innings. Crawley played a blistering knock with a strike rate over 100 and brought up a quick fifty. However, a crucial bowling change saw Axar Patel dismissing him, who miscued a big hit and was caught by Shreyas Iyer.

Jasprit Bumrah, with the reverse swing, played a pivotal role by first inducing a nick from Joe Root to first slip and then delivering a thunderous 141.7 kph yorker to dismiss Ollie Pope. This resulted in England losing three wickets for just 22 runs. Jonny Bairstow and Ben Stokes managed to see off the remaining period before Tea, stabilizing the innings for England.

Bumrah takes a six-wicket haul, Kuldeep-Bumrah duo bundles England for 253 in the final session

Bumrah’s masterful seam bowling was the highlight of the last session on Day 2. His skillful deliveries, including an outswinger to Root, an in-swinging yorker to Pope, and a cutter to Stokes, dismantled England’s aggressive middle order on a seemingly placid pitch.

This potent bowling performance, supported by Kuldeep Yadav‘s three-wicket contribution, showcased India’s resilience in the second-hour after lunch.

Surprisingly, Ravi Ashwin went wicketless in conditions favouring spin. India thus placed themselves in the driver’s seat, firmly controlling the match as they fought back strongly in this session.
