Rain forced early stumps on Day 1 when Bangladesh were 107/3 in 35 overs, while the second day could not see any action for the same reason. On the third day, the rain stopped before the starting time of the match, but the wet outfield forced the umpires to call off the game for the day. Led by Jasprit Bumrah’s 3 for 50, India bundled out Bangladesh for 233 runs in their first innings as the side resumed at 107/3 on Day 4.

Ravindra Jadeja became the seventh Indian to take 300 Test wickets by ending Bangladesh’s first innings. Mominul Haque was the standout batter for the visitors as he hit a brilliant century. Batting in their first innings, India scored 285/9 before declaring their innings, banking on half-centuries of Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul. It was a terrific innings from India as the side registered the fastest 50, 100, 150, 200, and 250 runs in the history of Test cricket.

Mominul Haque smashes century, Bangladesh 205/6 at Lunch

Jasprit Bumrah and Akash Deep started the Indian attack, with the second Test between India and Bangladesh resuming at long last. Bumrah knocked Mushfiqur Rahim over early on Day 4. Soon, India got two wickets off utterly stunning catches in the first session, and the match finally finished after two consecutive washed-out days. Rohit Sharma first made a sensational catch to dismiss Litton Das from the bowling of Mohammed Siraj. Siraj himself then took an even better catch to dismiss Shakib Al Hasan. Ravichandran Ashwin gave India their sixth breakthrough, dismissing Shakib for 9. However, Mominul Haque stood strong for Bangladesh, registering his 13th Test hundred.

Jaiswal-Gill lead charge, IND record fastest team 100, ends second session at 138/2 

Mominul Haque stayed unbeaten on 107 off 194 as Bangladesh were all out for 233. Ravindra Jadeja ended the Bangladesh innings with his 300th Test wicket. India openers Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal came out all guns blazing as India romped to the fastest Test team fifty and a hundred in the second session. The openers powered India past 50 in just 3 overs. While Rohit’s onslaught was short-lived, Jaiswal raced to a 31-ball fifty – the fastest by an Indian opener. Jaiswal eventually fell on 72, shortly before Tea. Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant led India to the break at 138/2 in 16 overs, where runs came at over eight runs per over.

Yashasvi-KL shine as IND declare at 285/9, BAN trail by 26 runs at stumps on Day 4

In the final session, both Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant fell quickly, and Virat Kohli and KL Rahul joined forces to craft a resilient partnership of 87 runs. Kohli became the fastest batter to reach 27,000 international runs during his quick cameo before getting out on 47. KL Rahul notches up his fastest and 15th Test fifty during the final session. He played a breezy innings of 68 off 43 balls. Shakib and Mehidy Hasan Miraz were the visiting team’s star bowlers, each with four wickets to their credit. Ravichandran Ashwin snapped two wickets of Bangladesh in the second innings as the visitors ended the Day 4 game on 26/2.

  • Ravichandran Ashwin (33) now has the highest wickets in Tests for India against Bangladesh. Zaheer Khan was the previous highest wicket-taker for India against Bangladesh with 31 scalps.
  • Mominul Haque is the second Test centurion for Bangladesh against India in India.
  • Mominul Haque now has 13 Test centuries. This is the most number of tons compiled by a Bangladesh player in Tests.
  • Ravindra Jadeja has reached the 300-wicket mark in Test cricket.
  • Jadeja is the 11th player in Test history to achieve the double of 3000 runs & 300 wickets. He is the third India player to achieve this feat, after Kapil Dev & Ravichandran Ashwin.
  • The opening partnership 55 between Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal recorded the fastest to-50 opening stand (19 balls) in the history of Test cricket.
  • Virat Kohli becomes the fourth player to go past 27,000 international runs.
What’s to come

Shadman Islam and Mominul Haque will resume the batting for the visitors on Day 5. India will expect a result from the game on the fifth and final day. They will look to bundle out Bangladesh early on. Meanwhile, the visitors will aim to put on a big target.
