Rajasthan Royals 121 for 6 (Samson 70*, Nortje 2/18, Ashwin 1/20) lost to Delhi Capitals 154/6 (Iyer 43, Mustafizur 2/22, Sakariya 2/33) by 33 runs.
The young and uncapped Indian players from Rajasthan Royals gave quick blows to Delhi Capitals and put them on the backfoot. But the Delhi batters somehow were able to put up a respectable total of 154 runs with the loss of 6 wickets.
While chasing 155 runs, the RR batters failed to take advantage of the conditions in the second innings and the poor form continued for the Royals batters. It was an exceptional performance by DC bowlers which led them to a victory over Rajasthan by 33 runs
Shikhar Dhawan falls cheaply
After losing the toss, Delhi did not have one of the best starts in this year’s Indian Premier League (IPL) in powerplay as they lost both of their openers and were able to add only 18 runs for the opening wicket.
Kartik Tyagi dismissed Shikhar Dhawan and Chetan Sakariya dismissed Prithvi Shaw. This was the first time for Delhi that their openers got dismissed in the powerplay in this season.
After losing both of their openers, Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant came on the crease and both of them built up a partnership of 63 runs. Iyer smashed 43 runs from 32 balls which included a four and two sixes. On the other hand, Pant scored 24 runs from 24 balls with two fours.
Shimron Hetmyer scored 28 important runs from 16 balls which included five fours. Lalit Yadav and Axar Patel also scored crucial runs in the end which took Delhi Capitals to a respectable total of 154 runs.
Anrich Nortje chokes Royals with 2/18
While defending the score 154 runs, the Capitals turned in an exceptional bowling performance restricting the Royals to 121 runs from 20 overs with the loss of six wickets.
The Rajasthan captain, Sanju Samson was the only batter who scored runs and rest of the players struggled to make it to the double digits. Out of 121 runs scored by Rajasthan Royals, Sanju Samson alone scored an unbeaten knock of 70 runs from 53 balls with eight fours and a six.
The Delhi pacers bowled a tight line and length with pace and bounce. All five bowlers for Capitals took the wickets. All the bowlers were miserly in terms of conceding runs. The bowling spells of DC bowlers are as follows:- Anrich Nortje with 4-018-0, Ravichandaran Ashwin with 4-0-20-1, Kagiso Rabada with 4-0-26-1, Axar Patel with 4-0-27-1 and Avesh Khan with 4-0-29-1.
Rajasthan Royals overseas player Liam Livingstone was promoted as an opener in today’s game against the Delhi Capitals. He got out on the last ball of the first over in the second innings. David Miller, in his first outing in the second leg was able to score 7 runs from 10 balls.
Delhi moves to top of the table in a cat and mouse game with Chennai
With this win Delhi Capitals reclaimed the pole position with 16 points with a net run rate of +0.711 and they have made it to the playoffs. With this loss, Rajasthan Royals slipped to the sixth position with 8 points in 5 matches and the route ahead seems tough for the franchise.
