Both Gujarat Titans (GT) and Delhi Capitals (DC) came up rejuvenated and confident from wins in their previous encounters against Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), respectively. They faced each other at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Wednesday to keep themselves in the hunt for the playoffs in IPL 2024.

GT were asked to put runs on the board first by DC. They didn’t have a great start in the powerplay as they lost 4 wickets for the score of 30. The Titans couldn’t recover from the initial stutter as DC bowlers decimated Gujarat batters by every means. GT could manage only 89 runs on the board; their lowest team score to date.

Delhi started aggressively in the chase as this was a brilliant opportunity for them to enhance their net run rate and inch closer to the playoffs spots. They chased down the target within 8.5 overs to record back-to-back wins. Gujarat managed to take 4 wickets, their only solace.

Key Takeaways from GT vs DC, Match 32 –Winning team (Delhi Capitals)

Delhi bowlers make the most of a tacky pitch

The Narendra Modi Stadium which is otherwise known for producing run-fests didn’t live up to reputation. The pitch wasn’t the usual batting paradise as the tackiness completely derailed Gujarat. The batters failed to apply themselves as Delhi bowlers maintained a disciplined approach, hitting proper line and length to make matters worse.

The ball wasn’t coming onto the bat properly making the batters step out. DC’s bowlers smartly deciphered Gujarat’s batting approach and kept hitting those lines regularly to put them in further jeopardy. They compelled Gujarat to play wrong shots as they kept losing wickets regularly to find themselves in the muddle.

DC were all over the Gujarat throughout their 17.3 overs stay. Whether it be pacers or spinners, Gujarat never found any sort of respite. Ultimately, it was Rashid Khan’s 31 that got them to an underwhelming total of 89.

Key Takeaways from GT vs DC, Match 32 – Losing team (Gujarat Titans)

Batting failure at home pose serious questions

It was a forgettable day at the office for the Titans. Their batting didn’t click at all as GT lost 4 wickets for 30 runs in the powerplay. Moreover, the rushed approach adopted by Gujarat batters has gone under critical scrutiny.

Every pitch doesn’t require an aggressive approach to get off to a flier. The Gujarat batters were required to apply themselves better on a tacky pitch, spending more time on the crease to assess the conditions and play shots accordingly.

They were looking to hit every ball when it wasn’t coming onto the bat properly. They stepped out of the crease to reach closer – an approach that completely backfired. It was a collective batting failure where none of the batters barring Rashid Khan looked comfortable. They failed to cross the 100-run mark for the first time in their IPL history.
